PrEP this week, and all year

PrEP is a medication that prevents HIV and promotes sexual health.

PrEP is short for pre-exposure prophylaxis, which means you take the medication before sex. PrEP is available in two versions – a daily pill and an injection every two months.

PrEP is for anyone who is HIV-negative. When taken as directed, the medication is 99% effective at preventing HIV.

Oct. 24-31 is PrEP Aware Week in New York. The state Department of Health is presenting Portraits of PrEP, stories of people who’ve taken the medication and how it provides and individualized approach to HIV prevention.

Throughout the week, Trillium Health will post photos and videos of our PrEP ambassadors on social media, so check out Trillium’s PrEP Facebook and PrEP Instagram accounts.

We'll also have balloons, rack cards, and posters throughout the clinic at Monroe Avenue and other locations. Please help to educate our patients and clients about PrEP.

The MOCHA Center has scheduled events throughout PrEP Aware Week:

  • Wednesday, October 26 at 6:00 pm: Trivia at Roar (621 Culver Road). We’ll have a sexual health/PrEP category with branded prizes.

  • Friday, October 28 at 6:00 pm: PrEP Aware Week Closing event at Roar. We’ll be giving out PrEP info with candy.

Help us spread the word about PrEP.

PrEP was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2012 and more than 70,000 New Yorkers have used it to prevent HIV.

You get PrEP from a health care provider, and there’s no cost-sharing with many health plans.
