Every day is a day to honor LGBTQ elders

May 16 is designated nationally as Honor Our LGBTQ Elders Day. In Rochester, a big event is the Caring with Pride discussion at 2 p.m. at the Rochester Academy of Medicine. It’s designed to draw attention to the many issues around aging and the LGBTQ community. You can register for the discussion by clicking here and getting connected to Lifespan of Greater Rochester.

But think about it. Aging is an everyday thing. We need to talk about and solve the problems that our elders face. This is a time for action.

We all need to be mindful of aging because you won't be 23 or 33 forever. It's pretty certain with some exceptions that you'll find yourself age 50 or 60 and older.

Of course, I don't have to worry about that yet because I lie about my age. But sooner or later, I may fess up to it.
